Abstract:Earl Miner’s re-interpretation of “comparison” and reflection upon the dogmatism of “western (European) centralism” help eliminate the drawbacks of the single poetics?system of the West, and promote comparison and exchange of poetics of different cultural systems. However, he got bogged down by cultural relativism, or plunged into the pitfall of nihilism which negates everything. The “non-judgmental” way of thinking and approaches provide a possibility of breaking the predicaments of cultural relativism. Firstly, the purpose of comparison is not to make judgments. Secondly, no ethnic culture is superior to the others. Thirdly, no genre is superior to the others.
