Abstract The thought in Lao Tzu’s Dao De Jing is an epistemology taking metaphysical world as its object. It is thinking from awareness of “Tao (道)”. The prerequisite for this epistemology is “knowing one’s ignorance (知不知)”, which is the best knowledge. The “knowledge（知）” about “Tao (道)” learned on this premise is unspeakable, therefore he who knows does not talk, which is the highest level of “knowing”. In real life, the highest level of “knowing” is an artistic state.
