Abstract:Common prosperity is a comprehensive problem domain covering multiple fields such as economy, politics, society, culture, and ecology. Its process, elements, and links are closely related to ethics, which fundamentally requires strengthening the operation of ethical concepts and adjusting social moral order. The capitalist “universal prosperity” based on capital ethics faces many paradoxes: in terms of wealth distribution, it reflects the confrontation between the priority of capital justice and the widespread poverty of the labor force; in terms of human development, it reflects the ideal gap between the generalization of capital freedom and the narrowing of human labor essence; in terms of ecological environment, it reflects the imbalance between the supremacy of capital self-interest and the destruction of labor ecological environment. In response to these developmental challenges, the ethical necessity of the shift from capital ethics to labor ethics in achieving common prosperity becomes the inevitable path out of the dilemma. From the logical concordance between common prosperity and labor ethics, common prosperity has ethical characteristics of labor ontology, people's values, and social historicity, pointing to the need to confirm the labor moral foundation of common prosperity, emphasize the position of labor subjects, and clarify the ethical direction of “harmonious coexistence of laborers with nature”. Building the labor value foundation of common prosperity helps to cultivate the public virtue of “co-creation and sharing of social wealth”, clarifies the value orientation of “people-oriented”, and emphasizes the “sustainable development” of ecological well-being. Therefore, the reconstruction of the ethical and moral model of common prosperity's healthy development requires embedding labor ethics with labor justice, labor freedom, and green labor as their value content into the practice of common prosperity. In the new era, common prosperity should exert coordinated efforts from the dimensions of system, culture, ecology, etc., to construct the general prosperity that unifies individual existence with social existence, achieve comprehensive prosperity that unifies the material world with the spiritual world, and realize the overall prosperity that reconciles naturalism with humanitarianism, to demonstrate the new ethical structural paradigm of Chinese-style common prosperity that surpasses the Western “universal prosperity”.
