Abstract:Financial resilience is the core cornerstone for achieving the goal of building a strong financial nation, and climate risks are currently among the major factors constraining the development of the financial system. Based on China’s city-level panel data, this paper constructs a comprehensive financial resilience index from three dimensions: stability, recovery, and renewal, and systematically examines the impact degree, mechanism, and mitigation measures of climate warming risks on financial resilience. The results indicate that the risks of climate warming significantly inhibit regional financial resilience. Structural decomposition reveals that the risks of climate warming reduce the stability and renewal of the regional financial system. Mechanism analysis reveals that climate warming risks reduce agricultural and industrial output in the real world sector, exacerbate unemployment in the household sector, and worsen the financial situation of households, and intensify the imbalance between local fiscal revenue and expenditure, thereby inhibiting regional financial resilience. The analysis of adaptive measures indicates that enhancing the resilience of the real economy, such as improving regional green innovation capabilities and promoting the development of the digital industry can mitigate the negative transmission effects of climate warming risks. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance climate risk management capabilities and build a modern economic and financial system with climate resilience in order to facilitate the construction of a financial powerhouse.
