Abstract:Wu Ge (Wu Songs) and Xi Qu (Western Songs) in yuefu shiji (collection of poems of the official conservatory) recorded part of the folk love songs circulating in the Southern Dynasty. They provide us a glimpse of the folk love songs at that time. The love songs were recorded in the Southern Dynasty as the political center moved southward and the ruling class had aesthetic needs. Besides, the “yuanqing” poetics theory (a theory put forward by Lu Ji who believed the beauty of poetry came from emotion) was also a driving force behind this phenomenon.
