Abstract:Since 1978, China has experienced great changes in social economic development. Under the leadership of government, “the market” as an important resource allocation has embedded into China's economic and social fields. This is a gradual development different from many western countries. Here comes the question: how does the government interact with the market or vice versa? Based on key policy documents since opening up and reform, we review the relationship between the government and the market, finding that the relationship between the two has shifted from the pattern of “strong government, weak market” to “strong government, strong market”. In the context of deepening the reform, China needs to further define the boundary between the government and market, optimize the “double strong”pattern, and promote the coordinated social economic development.
