Progress and Dilemma: the Content and Industrial Development of Chinese Television in Program Format Import Era |

Abstract Television program formats represent the trend in the television business of the world. Television program format introduction in China has experienced two stages —— “accumulative period” and “explosive period”, which greatly promoted the progress and maturity of Chinese entertainment programs. However, in this booming era of imported formats, inadequate originality and loss of aboriginality is a dilemma for Chinese television and even Chinese society and culture. To address this issue, we need to move from overseas import to original output, which is crucial for the sustainable development of Chinese television.
