The Esports Industry Chain, Development Index and Future Trends in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area |

Abstract Esports is a new type of digital cultural industry format. The output value of esports and related industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area ranks first in the country, and the development characteristics of the industries is distinctive. Esports presents a development pattern of the entire industry chain, with international competitiveness from software to hardware, from content to events; There are many and large-scale esports and gaming companies with significant economic benefits, but there is an urgent need to enhance social benefits; There are many esports clubs, but there is still a need to build world-class esports clubs to participate in global esports events; The development of the esports industry in major cities is uneven, with Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong leading the way, while other cities provide industrial support and esports consumption, the overall development speed and frequency of esports industry are rapidly increasing. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Esports Development index ranks second among the four major bay areas globally and the four major urban agglomerations in China. According to the evaluation of the esports development index, the esports in major cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area are divided into four tiers. Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong participate in national and global competition in industries such as esports games, esports competitions, and international esports clubs; Foshan and Macao mainly focus on creating distinctive esports events and esports clubs; Dongguan, Huizhou and Zhuhai mainly develop national esports and characteristic esports industrial parks; Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing mainly develop derivative and integrated industries such as esports equipment and esports hotels. The future development of the esports industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area must fully attach importance to the cultural value, empowerment value, and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao culture of esports integrating value, strengthening policy and online gaming advantages, promoting the hosting of esports events, the construction of esports venues and esports going global.
