Abstract The "new normal" economy is an objective trend of China's economic development. Stepping into a "new normal" state, Chinese economy is faced with the challenges of a huge income distribution gap and the transformation of income distribution pattern. Slowing down economic growth and making a bigger "cake" of distribution constitute a pair of contradictions in China's economic society. However, the "new normal" economy also presents opportunities for the adjustment of income distribution pattern and the reform of income distribution system. To resolve the conflict between the "new normal" economy and demands for income growth, we need to grasp the opportunity of the "new normal" economy, reform the income distribution system, optimize economic structure, increase economic efficiency, guarantee the quality of economic growth, narrow the gap of income distribution, incorporate rural and urban areas into medical security system, raise the level of basic public services, to achieve the coordinated development in a fair and efficient way.
