Abstract:The Zhou Yi or Book of Changes, teeming with philosophical wisdom, is the fountain of the Chinese civilization and some of its principles can be applied to translation studies. Based on the relevant philosophical thoughts of the Zhou Yi, the author puts forward the “mean and harmony” criterion for translation criticism, expounds its main characteristics of integration, diversity and dynamicness, and proposes various methods to fulfill the criterion. The paper provides a new approach to studies of the criterion for translation criticism and lays a foundation for further studies of translation criticism from the perspective of the Great Yi.
