Abstract:Culture, as a special field in the social structure that stands alongside economics and politics, plays an important role in the Chinese path to modernization. However, various specific research directions related to culture are currently scattered across numerous different disciplines, and an independent and complete system of culturology has yet to be established. The great practice of Chinese-style modernization, the goal of building a strong cultural country, and the construction of China’s independent knowledge system all urgently require the establishment of a systematic and autonomous culturology. The disciplinary independence and construction of culturology is essentially a metascientific problem, requiring a self-referential and reflective study of culturology from a metascientific perspective to seek its realistic and theoretical basis for current construction as well as future development directions. The “culture” studied in culturology is clearly elucidated by sinicized Marxist cultural theory as “culture as an ideological form” that stands alongside economics and politics. The process of culturology towards disciplinary independence is a gradual one, and it cannot be achieved overnight. It can be achieved step by step according to a “two-step” approach: firstly, culturology can be established as a primary discipline in the field of art or literature. Secondly, culturology can be upgraded to an independent discipline, truly achieving the goal of disciplinary independence for culturology.
