Abstract:With deepening of China’s opening up and reform, international communication becomes increasingly frequent and the number of people going abroad for official duties, business, study and travel keeps climbing year by year. Meanwhile, the security of Chinese nationals oversea is becoming a more serious issue. Based on media representation theory, breaking the concept barrier between films and television programs and news reports, this research, through comparative study, probes into how the security issue of Chinese nationals overseas as a special media phenomenon is captured, recorded and propagated by AV (audio-visual) media. The research shows utilizing diplomatic resources to safeguard the lawful rights and interests of Chinese nationals is a vivid interpretation of such ideas as “governing for the people” and “diplomacy for the people”, and also represents the diplomatic principle of “putting people first ” and “putting Chinese nationals oversea first”. To some degree, whether unexpected security incidents can be properly handled is an important measure of a country’s power and prosperity.
