Abstract：CHEN Yun’s thoughts on opening up to the outside world since the founding of new China are the results of his theoretical thinking and practices as a long-time leader in China’s opening-up policy. They were mainly reflected in acceleration of socialist modernization with Chinese characteristics with an open-door policy, emphasis on investigation and study to actively and carefully use the achievements of capitalist civilization, and stress adaptability, autonomy and systematic aspects of opening up to the outside world. He obviously inherited and developed MAO Zedong’s glorious ideas of opening up to the outside world such as “leaning to one side foreign policy”, from “the middle ground” to the differentiation of “the three worlds”, and taking advantage of the achievements of capitalist civilization through the open-door policy. These precious ideas are still worthy of our study and use for reference. They will definitely play a bigger role in transforming our foreign economic development mode, improving our open economy, making us more resilient to global economic risks, and vigorously advancing reform and opening up.
