| Nihilism,Ontology and Truth：Three Aspects within Vattimo’s Critique of Modern Hermeneutics |

Abstract The generalization of hermeneutics, which started in the middle and late 20th century, has consistently been the main concern of Vattimo’s philosophy. According to Vattimo, the generalization trend deprived the uniqueness and criticalness of hermeneutics itself. Under this circumstance, Vattimo proposed that we should reflect the hermeneutics through nihilism, ontology and truth. Regarding nihilism, hermeneutics ought to adhere to its antifoundational and anti-metaphysical stance. As to ontology, hermeneutics should regard tradition and history as a path to recollect Being, so as to avoid becoming relativistic and metaphysical. In the end, it is based on nihilism and ontology that hermeneutics is able to speak truth as “dwelling” instead of “coherence”.
